Our 5th Annual 5K Family Fun Walk/Run held on May 30, 2009 was another huge success and raised over $27,000. This brings us to a combined total of over $175,000!
All contributions were placed in The National Kidney Foundation Research Endowment and will only be tapped to support research relating to IGA Nephropathy. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a bi-annual basis by the Board of Research and Development and then assigned to begin the research process. Although we have a long way to go, we have moved forward quickly and we have our supporters to thank.
This is a monumental year for Strides for IGAN, in March, I had the opportunity to visit LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis Tennessee where I met with Dr. Sanders and Dr. Wyatt. It was quite incredible to see the research to find a cure for IGA Nephropathy underway and quite incredible to see my dream coming true. I left there knowing it was time to move this organization to the next level. Sure we have accomplished so much, but we have so much more to do.
We are pending 501 (c)(3) and will soon announce our Officers and Board Members. Also this year we will be hosting a Winter Ball and our first Spring Lake Golf Classic. Very exciting indeed!
I am pleased to announce the formation of our Volunteer’s Speakers Bureau. As a service to the community and to better educate people about IGA Nephropathy a representative will attend a meeting of your organization and give a brief presentation as to the disease an our organizations work.
Just have your Secretary or Program Chairman contact us and we will be happy to arrange a date and develop a presentation tailored to your specific time constraints. We also provide each of your membership with an educational brochure. Please not this is not a fundraising request rather part of our Educational Program.
